Jeffrey H. Carter, LPC, CAADC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. I hold a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Addictions Treatment from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA, a Master’s of Arts in Counseling degree from St. Edwards University in Austin, TX, a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Psychology from Park University, Parkville, MO.
I have spent the past 10+ years working in a variety of clinical settings ranging from residential & outpatient treatment centers to nationally recognized non-profit agencies. My focus has been in the areas of recovery from drug & alcohol addiction, the anxiety and depression that may accompany it, living with a dual diagnosis and the enhancement of the health and well-being of people affected by HIV and AIDS. Other areas of specialty include familial discord, sexuality issues, adjustment concerns and trauma.
There have been numerous occasions over the years where life presented an opportunity for change. My journey of self-reflection and re-creation began in the summer of 1992 when I realized the choices I had been making were not only adversely affecting me but also those whom I loved. A friend told me of the solutions she had found and applied to her life, and thus began my own journey in recovery. That was over 20 years ago. My life continues to change as the years pass - experiencing both wonderful joys and painful sorrows...all leading to an opportunity for growth. The sum of my experience is a major guiding force in the work I do.
In my free time, I try to practice what I preach - balance. Being in touch with where I am mentally, physically and spiritually is a must in my personal growth. The outdoors plays a vital role in this process. I can generally be found either spinning around on my mountain bike or running the wooded trails of Fairmount Park, Pennypack Park, or on the Schuylkill River trail. My continued educational pursuits have offered a significant amount of cognitive stimulation; annual continuing educational requirements keep that process fresh. Exploration of spiritual beliefs continue to develop through meditation and engagement with the local recovery community. I believe spiritual growth is an important ingredient in my overall positive well-being.
